Happy New Year from Sandi Howland Archer
My
New Year’s Resolution
Perhaps my past failure rate regarding resolutions has something to do with lofty goals. Like reading a book that has “real” pages. Or losing weight. Or something really dramatic like staying up until nine! With failure behind me and success knocking at my door, I’m excited about my resolution this year.
There are so many things I wish I had asked
my parents. Many unanswered questions
are about their childhood and young adult lives. Questions like, “How did you meet?” I remember that it had something to do with
my father returning a salt shaker. What
the heck?
So, I’ve decided to document my memories and
leave them for my children. Better hurry
while I still have some. I purchased a
book, The Book of Myself, for each of them with a plan to fill in the
blanks. As I leafed through it, I
realized that not all the included topics fit well and some topics I want to
write about aren’t there. So, beginning January
1, 2013, I’ll write my memories in a Word document. Easy to edit, spell check, and I won’t be
limited by 15 lines per topic. I’ll use many of the topics included in the
books I purchased and will add some that are important to me. Perhaps my children will someday add to the
memory pages and pass them along to their own children.
Some of you provided me with lasting and
happy memories that will be included. My
children and grandchildren and theirs will know that you had a positive impact
on who I became. Thank you for that.
My New Year’s wish for each of you is an
abundance of love, good health, safety, and fabulous memories to share.
