We have a location for our Saturday, April 21st meeting from 1 to 3 PM. Herb was able to get permission for our meeting in that location.

Directions to the meeting room, an agenda and the dinner get together will follow.

The message will go out to all the shepherds with an invite to all classmates.

Mr. Nelson passes away

Mr. Eldon Nelson, our 9th grade Pennsylvania History teacher, has passed away.  I remember him as a quiet, gentle and effective teacher who cared deeply for his students and never sought to embarrass them, even if they offered a laughably incorrect answer (as I once did when he asked me to define "melting pot"). 

Following is a brief death notice from Gant Daily:

Eldon L. Nelson, age 85, of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, formerly of Clearfield, passed away on Jan. 31, 2012. Mr. Nelson was born on Feb. 23, 1926 in Madera, PA.

A graduate of Bigler Township High School and the Pennsylvania State University, Mr. Nelson received his Masters Degree in Education. He retired from Clearfield Area School District in 1987 as a Guidance Counselor after 38 years as a teacher and served one term as President of the Clearfield Education Association.

Mr. Nelson was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield.

He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Nelson’s interests included numismatics, fishing, bowling and crossword puzzles; and he was a Penn State alumnus and avid football fan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022 or The Presbyterian Church, 119 N. 2nd Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.

Wes Shimmel recovering from health issues

Our dear friend and classmate Wesley Shimmel was admitted to the Clearfield Hospital recently due to health problems but is now recovering at his home in Clearfield.
