36 classmates, family & friends enjoy Class of '59 picnic
The day was perfect - sunny, not too warm, a gentle breeze, and great food and fellowship as a total of 36 classmates, friends and family enjoyed the 2012 class picnic on Saturday, August 4, at Parker Dam State Park.
Here were some of the comments and reactions following the event:
Good times! Many thanks to all who contributed
so much to the weekend gathering (s).....your work is greatly appreciated. I
didn't speak to anyone who was anything less than enthusiastic ... At breakfast Orvie Kline’s
lady asked if we had been the best of friends during school & I had to
admit that many of us did little more than speak during that time.......with
age comes wisdom!
I agree with y'all. It was a great get-together. By my count there were
36 people/16 classmates at the picnic: Joyce (Amon) and Dave Michaels, Gary
Bolton, Bonnie (Henchbarger) and Ed Powell, Wilda Homman Williams, Orvis Kline
and lady friend Di Negrin, Peggy Jo (Knepp) and Bob Thompson, Lonnie and Helen
Kovalick, Norman Kyler, Herb and Joann Maney, Denny and brother Dan Mollura,
Joyce (Moody) Fletcher and Mick Hoover, Tom O'Day + 8 family members, Judi
(Rolley) and Denny White, Suzy (Sherkel) and Karl Nagle, Joanne (Shimel) and
Bill Magnuson, Wil and Karen Shirey.
We really enjoyed the picnic,
friendship, and conversation. It was great seeing everyone and spending a very nice
relaxing day with friends.
I thought Saturday's event was
outstanding in every respect:
- The Parker Dam location and pavilion were , in my opinion, excellent choices.
- Travel time from Clearfield was an easy drive of only about 20-25 minutes.
- The pavilion was clean,
comfortable and provided excellent shelter from the sun and any rain that may
have occurred late in the afternoon.
- There was an abundance of food
and fellowship. Everyone who attended was well-fed and seemed to have a good
time.
- Clean-up was was quick and efficient with a minimum of fuss.
- We expended no money from the
treasury save for a modest fee for the pavilion and a one-time mailing to
classmates in the spring.
The Class of '59 planning group will meet again on Saturday, October 13, in the Clearfield Hospital conference room to receive and discuss suggestions for possible future events. All classmates are invited and, in fact, encouraged to attend. We need everyone's input!

Last call for our class picnic on Saturday!
Our CAHS Class of 1959 picnic will be held Saturday, August 4, at Pavilion # 2 at Parker Dam State Park near Penfield.
This year's event will be an old-fashioned family picnic and opportunity to relax and get together with classmates and friends. The pavilion is ours from 8 a.m. to sunset.
The area around the pavilion is paved and restrooms are available.
See you at Parker Dam!
Pellerite family "wonderful busy" this summer
Hi!
I'm sorry this is so late in getting back to you. We will be unable to
attend St Francis '59 get together.
Have a wonderful time and say "hi" to everyone for us.
We have been busy all summer and it's not letting up yet! However, it is wonderful busy.
We graduated our #11 child (our baby) from college, followed by a granddaughter's First Communion, then a baptism of another granddaughter, a baby shower for #19 grandchild, Family vacation, Chuck's 71st birthday (his granddaughter told him now he's as old as her school bus--it's number 71 too!), high school graduation of yet another granddaughter and awaiting the birth of our new grandchild to be.

Class of '59 picnic just 11 days away!
It's almost here.
The CAHS Class of 1959 picnic will be held Saturday, August 4, at Pavilion # 2 at Parker Dam State Park near Penfield.
This year's event
will be an old-fashioned family picnic and an opportunity to relax and get together with classmates and friends. The pavilion is ours from 8 a.m. to sunset.
Judi Rolley White reminds us that all pavilions have picnic tables and grills for charcoal. Most have electricity. Bring your own food, desserts, table service and anything else needed to make yourselves comfortable.
We plan to eat around 1 p.m., but, of course, you may set your own schedule.

Bison and Alumni Dinner and the last day of the Clearfield County Fair.
Those who wish to attend either or both of

on to the Golden Bison event, which begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., or
take in the final hours of the fair.

Memories of Mr. Bill Butler - teacher and friend

I am so sad to learn of Mr. Bill Butler's death. He
was a wonderful human being!
He and I became friends over a two year period when
I was in college at Indiana State Teacher's College and I tendered him in the
summer when he was patching plaster in Clearfield Area Schools. We had a
wonderful time. I followed Joe Rohrbaugh as his helper.
I had been in his homeroom class as a senior and
had enjoyed his tutorials on the machines he was teaching his business students
how to use. Soon after that, computers became the standard and I'm sure he
adapted quickly. However, none will forget his coming out in the morning and
clapping his hands and saying "Let's move it along, folks!" and we all
did.
He grew up in the town of Indiana and his father
and brother had a plastering business there. When I was a student at what became
IUP, a law or ordinance was passed that required plastering the ceiling in the
furnace room. At that point, I was the house manager for my fraternity. I called
Mr Butler's father and explained who I was and what we needed done. As I recall
they did it for nothing or almost nothing.
Bill Butler projected the loving caring attributes
of his family. I only got the job because my father had served on the school
board for nearly 30 years. But because of Bill Butler, I loved every minute of
it and learned a lot. That first year I tried chewing Mail Pouch tobacco to keep
the plaster dust out of my mouth. The first day I nearly threw up. He said to
me, "How'd that tobacco go?" knowing full well how green I had been. I said,
"Not real great!" He replied, "I had a similar experience." I loved the
guy!!!

Class picnic just 4 weeks away!
It's almost here!
Time to start preparing in earnest for the annual get-together of the Clearfield Area High School Class of 1959.
This year’s
event will be an old-fashion family picnic to be held Saturday, August 4,
at Pavilion #2, at Parker Dam State Park. The pavilion is ours from 8 a.m. till
sunset (for those with the desire and ability to stay late).
The picnic is a bring-your-own event, so plan on
providing your own food, drinks, dessert, table Service, and lawn chairs, cooler and ice,
charcoal or propane grill, or anything else to enhance your comfort and
enjoyment. The area around the pavilion is paved and restrooms are
available.
If you're coming a far distance, or feeling a bit lazy, just show up and enjoy the visit! You classmates will make sure you are well-fed and welcomed.
August 4 also is the date of the annual Golden Bison

Mr. Butler has died
Mr. William Butler, who taught Typing and Bookkeeping II when we were at CAHS, has died at the age of 90.
William D. Butler Sr., 90, of Clearfield died on June 30, 2012 at the Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield. He was born on April 12, 1922 in Indiana, a son of the late Arthur Guy and Margaret Ann (Martin) Butler.
Mr. Butler was the founding member of the local chapter of P.A.R.C. (Parents Association of Retarded Children) and loved the outdoors.
He served more than 40 years as a teacher at our high school. Rest in peace, Mr. Butler.
His obituary from the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral home follows:
William D. Butler Sr., 90, of Clearfield died on June 30, 2012 at the Colonial Courtyard, Clearfield. He was born on April 12, 1922 in Indiana, a son of the late Arthur Guy and Margaret Ann (Martin) Butler.
Mr. Butler retired as a Business Teacher from the Clearfield Area High School, after being employed there for over 40 years. He received his formal education from the Indiana State Teachers College, Indiana, PA.
He loved to spend his spare time enjoying the outdoors while fishing and hunting. He will be remembered for his beautiful gardens and his delicious homemade pies, which he loved to give away for others to enjoy.
He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield serving on Church Council and being an active usher, the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #314, Clearfield and the Clearfield Education Association, where he was past president.
Mr. Butler served with the U. S. Marines during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary C. (Lightner) Butler whom he wed June 3, 1945 in Hollidaysburg; five children William D. Butler Jr. of Clearfield, Richard G. Butler and wife Betsy of Clearfield, Joy A. Lhota and husband Rick of Clearfield, Donald Lee Butler of Treasure Lake, Thomas A. Butler and wife Debbie of Clearfield; nine grandchildren Zachary Butler, Joanna and Ethan Lott, Dr. Nathaniel Butler and wife Erin Kirkpatrick, Jordan Butler, Tyler Butler and wife Arielle, Rachel and John Lhota and Sarah Butler; and two great grandsons Silas and Caleb Butler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Arthur G. Butler Jr.
Funeral services were held at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield, with Pastor Robert J. Way officiating. Interment was in Mount Joy Cemetery, Clearfield.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. John Lutheran Church, PO Box 1454, Clearfield.
