The CAHS Class of '59 planning committee met at the Clearfield Hospital conference room on
Saturday, April 21, with the following class members and spouses attending:
-
Judi Rolley White
-
Joyce Moody Fletcher
-
Bonnie Henchbarger Powell and husband, Ed
-
Suzy Sherkel Nagle and husband, Karl
-
Herb Maney
-
Linda Smith Dale
-
Dennis Mollura
Dennis chaired the meeting in the absence of our esteemed chairman,
Tom O’Day, who has been sidelined with a back issue.
Judi and Joyce reminded the group that this year’s summer
event will be an old-fashion family picnic to be held Saturday, August 4, at
Pavilion #2, at Parker Dam State Park. The pavilion is ours from 8 a.m. till sunset
(for those with the desire and ability to stay late).
The picnic is a bring-your-own event, so plan on providing
your own food, drinks, dessert, table and lawn chairs, cooler and ice, charcoal
or propane grill, or anything else to enhance your comfort and enjoyment. The
area around the pavilion is paved and restrooms are available.
This is the same date as the annual Golden Bison and Alumni
Dinner and the last day of the Clearfield County Fair. Those who wish to attend either or both of
those events will have plenty of time to picnic with classmates and then head
on to the Golden Bison event, which begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., or
take in the final hours of the fair.
Joyce presented a draft of a planned mailing to class members
formally announcing the picnic and providing directions to the park. Class members of sound mind and fond memories
certainly “don’t need no stinkin’ directions.”
For those who do, the Parker Dam State Park is situated 17 miles north
of Clearfield off PA Route 153.
Other actions and discussions at Saturday’s meeting.
-
Members authorized the secretary-treasurer,
Joyce Moody Fletcher, to purchase 250 U.S. postage stamps at 45 cents each
(total of $112.50) to mail the picnic announcement to class members.
-
Bonnie Henchbarger Powell described the
hazardous traffic situation which has developed at the entrance to the new CVS
Drug Store on Bridge Street. A new
entrance has been created where Brewery Hill joins Bridge, which has resulted
in a number of pile-ups, some serious.
If you are traveling on Bridge intending to make a left turn onto
Brewery Hill, you must make a counter-intuitive move to the right lane before
turning left. Go figure. Above all, be alert and be safe! One three-vehicle accident resulted in a truck
nearly crashing into the NAPA store.
-
Dennis Mollura was elected group chairman for a one-year
term beginning in October.
-
The next meeting of the group-(following the
summer picnic) will be Saturday, October 13, at 1 p.m. the Clearfield Hospital
conference room. A special thanks to Herb Maney for turning us on to the hospital facility. Penn State fans please note: This is an open date for the Nittany Lions.

Bonnie and Ed Powell arrive at the meeting.

Herb keeps a watchful eye on the purse. Dennis pretends not to notice.

"I can't make heads or tails of O'Day's agenda," says Judi Rolley White. Suzy Nagle and Joyce Moody Fletcher seem to agree.
|
![]() |
| "I give up!" |
![]() |
| "I think I get it!" |

Karl and Sue help flesh out O'Day's agenda.
|
"It's good to be the chairman. I wonder if they missed me."

Proud moment for Doug and Herb Maney
My dad, Herb Maney, standing by my G-model in the Mack Trucks Historical Museum at Allentown, PA - A photo-op I never thought would be possible! WOW!
We spent 3 1/2 years rebuilding the 1961 Mack G model and are very proud of it and its status in Mack. Very few were made and fewer survive. Mack wants our truck in the museum as a reminder of the model.

We will miss our chairman, Tom O'Day, on Saturday
Classmates -
I just received a phone call from my doctor and they have reevaluated my MRI to discover I have a ruptured disk not a herniated disk. ...I am awaiting a phone call from a local surgeon to schedule a procedure next week.
I was all set to spend 4 days in Clearfield. Will miss seeing all of you, but if nothing goes wrong, I'll be at the picnic. I'll try to set up the golf outing with Guy and Giles unless Karl wants to start the process sooner.
I'll keep you informed after next week.
Stay safe and healthy. ( OK, no smart comments..I get enough of them from Dawn when I'm injured.)
The agenda for Saturday's meeting is below.

Dawn and I had dinner with Sandi in Tucson in March—2012.
