Rose McCracken Billotte doing well after knee surgery

Rose McCracken Billotte's husband Bill reports that her surgery went very well and, in fact, she's already been up and walking on the two new knees and bending them! (OUCH!)

She'll be transferred to another hospital for at least two  weeks of rehab.  Bill said he'll keep us posted.

Robinson Clay photo kindles fond memories

By Linda Smith Dale

Enjoyed seeing the picture on the Blog of Robinson Clay Products.

I can remember when some of the workers’ cabins were
moved on the back of trucks up to the air field near the
Firetower.

The field was across from Hess's farm (field used to pick up mail) and is now the Haney Development.

Those cabins were set in the field and refurbished to
be used as rentals. A dirt road was created to access
the cabins. It seems to me it was sometime in the 50's
before RCP closed. I watched the trucks from
Yeager's yard as they came up Wrigley road and continued
up to the air field.

Remember also watching the planes swoop down to
retrieve the mail bags in the years before it was closed.

What wonderful memories from my childhood.

Seeing Dan's picture brought it all back.

Another view of old Clearfield, provided by Dan Mollura and posted on Facebook by Paul Mollura.  It shows the old Robinson Clay Products plant in Clearfield's East End around 1935.

Great overall view, with the intersection of Bigler Avenue and Woodland Road in the foreground, the plant's four rows of company houses adjacent to Bigler Avenue, and the plant itself. There appears to be ice floating past on the river.

To the far-left you can see the bridge, since demolished, whose concrete pillar still stands today.

The plant, which closed in 1960, is now the site of the Clearfield Mall.

This is a view of Market Street in Clearfield in our year of graduation from the extensive postcard collection of the family of Linda Smith Dale. Note the 1959 Mercury and 1959 Cadillac in the foreground.

The home of classmate Sandra Shaw DeCasper at the top of East Market Street is visible in the greenery toward the middle of the photo.

Linda Smith Dale has shared a large number of postcards of old Clearfield from her family's extensive collection.

This is the site (in our time) of the old Grice Sinclair Service Station and later Grice Gun Shop.  We'll be sharing these postcards with classmates over time.

This is the New York Central's Clearfield Junction, just east of town.  It has been a favorite deer and turkey hunting spot for more than a century, probably longer, especially for those who had no car or other transportation to more rural game or farm lands.

Thanks, Linda.

Sorry to be late with these:

Service arrangements for Judi's mother, Mary

Hi All,

By now, most of you know that Judi's mother

passed away on Friday, January 25, at her home

in Olanta.

Judi told me that her mother always said -

"If she died in the dead of winter," she wanted to

be cremated immediately and there was to be

no funeral or calling hours - they were to have a

memorial service whenever the roads are good.

So, the plans are to do so in June, when

schools are no longer in session.

There will be a notice in The Progress prior to

the memorial service in June.

For those who so choose, memorial contributions

can be forwarded to Mary's church:

Curwensville United Methodist Church

602 State Street

Curwensville, PA 16833

Sympathy cards can be sent to:

Mrs. Dennis White (Judi Rolley-White)

507 Park Avenue

Clearfield, PA 16830

Thank you and God Bless,

  - Joyce
