Mr. Eldon Nelson, our 9th grade Pennsylvania History teacher, has passed away. I remember him as a quiet, gentle and effective teacher who cared deeply for his students and never sought to embarrass them, even if they offered a laughably incorrect answer (as I once did when he asked me to define "melting pot").

Eldon L. Nelson, age 85, of Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, formerly of Clearfield, passed away on Jan. 31, 2012. Mr. Nelson was born on Feb. 23, 1926 in Madera, PA.A graduate of Bigler Township High School and the Pennsylvania State University, Mr. Nelson received his Masters Degree in Education. He retired from Clearfield Area School District in 1987 as a Guidance Counselor after 38 years as a teacher and served one term as President of the Clearfield Education Association.
Mr. Nelson was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Clearfield.
He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Nelson’s interests included numismatics, fishing, bowling and crossword puzzles; and he was a Penn State alumnus and avid football fan.
