It is with great sadness that I must report the loss of another Classmate!  They all hit me hard, but the loss of William Charles (Chuck) Nelson, a personal childhood friend and playmate, is particularly poignant.  Chuck lost his battle with cancer on July 6, 2016.

Obituary for William Charles (Chuck) Nelson

William Charles (Chuck) Nelson, July 21, 1941 -  July 6, 2016.  Chuck Nelson, 74, of Pleasant Gap, lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born July 21, 1941, the son of Thelma Ruth Nelson and William Clyde Nelson, he was a resident of Clearfield and Pleasant Gap. Chuck graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1959. He served in the Army following graduation from high school. He retired from Sears in 1992, and went on to work many years for C.S. Myer's & Son of State College. He was the loving husband of Gayla J. Nelson, and they enjoyed 49 years together before his passing. Chuck was proceeded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Nelson, of Clearfield. He is survived by a sister, Sonja Brobeck, of Julian; a brother, Ken Nelson, of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Miranda Nelson, of Silver Spring, Md.; a son, Eric Nelson, of Newburgh, N.Y.; a son, Brad Nelson, of Pittsburgh; a daughter- in-law, Renee Savin, of Newburgh; a daughter-in-law, Megan Nelson, of Pittsburgh; and grandchildren, Asa, Charlotte, and Ivy Nelson, of Newburgh, N.Y. and Layne Nelson, of Pittsburgh. During his lifetime, Chuck was a member of the Pleasant Gap American Legion and Pleasant Gap Lions Club. As a young adult, he played baseball for the Pleasant Gap Peppers. As a parent, he served as both a coach and the president of the Pleasant Gap Little League. He also coached for Bellefonte Teener League and the local Babe Ruth Team. Chuck's hobbies included fishing, gardening, and watching baseball. His passion was his family. Friends will be received Saturday, July 8, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., the time of the service, at the Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc, 206 North Spring Street, Bellefonte. A memorial service will be held Saturday, following the visitation, at the funeral home, at 12:00 p.m., with the Rev. Calvin Miller officiating.
