Downtown Clearfield - Flood of 1936
Email from Tom O'Day:
My cousin, Norman Sunderland, sent me this picture that shows the Keystone Ice Cream Co. during the 1936 flood.
Tom
Editor's Note: This picture was probably taken from up on the hill beside Hillcrest Cemetary. It was taken during the flood of 1936 (March 17-22). You can see the old Clearfield County Jail in the center of the picture and just barely make out the west side and the Market Street Bridge (upper left corner). Just below the jail is the Keystone Ice Cream Co. and at the bottom center is what appears to be a barge or boat. This is actually a railroad coal car loaded with coal.

Suzy summerizes CAHS Class of '59 picnic and dinner following on August 17, 2013
What a great day for our class picnic at the Clearfield K of C grove! Many thanks to the Clearfield crew: Joyce & Mick, Judi & Denny and others, for decorating and covering the tables, as well as for providing the cute ice tubs, the "Save-the-Ritz" information and video, and to Denny White & Mick Hoover for "manning" the grill. As usual, there was a plethora of food and good, catching-up-type conversation.
There were 31 classmates and "guests" at the picnic: Joyce (Amon) & Dave Michaels; Maxine & Blaine Bloom; Gary Bolton; Bonnie (Henchbarger) & Ed Powell; Pat (Kinkead) Cutler; Orvis Kline; Peggy Jo (Knepp) Thompson; Lonnie & Helen Kovalick; Norman Kyler; Sandy & Sam Lansberry; Pauline Maloni; Sylvia & James McKenrick; Joyce (Moody) Fletcher & Mick Hoover; Tom O'Day; Judi (Rolley) & Denny White; Suzy (Sherkel) & Karl Nagle; Joanne (Shimel) & Bill Magnuson; Karen & Wil Shirey; Denny Mollura's brother, Dan; and Tom O'Day's sister, Helen. Plus, Carol (Morgan) Peterson, (Class of '58 - at the invitation of Judi White) dropped by to share a few minutes with us.
There were 13 (11 after Judi & Denny departed) at the evening dinner at Moena: Orvis Kline, Peggy Jo Thompson, our "hostess" Pauline Maloni, Sylvia & Jim McKenrick, Tom O'Day, Judi & Denny White (for a short while), Suzy & Karl Nagle, Joanne Magnuson, and Karen & Wil Shirey.
Of course, we were all sadly feeling the absence of our intrepid Denny Mo, star of the "Save-the-Ritz" video.

From The Progress - Denny Mollura - September 10, 2013
Andrew D. Mollura
AVON, Ohio - Andrew Dennis Mollura, 72, of Avon, Ohio, died Friday, September 6, 2013, at Lakewood Hospital, Lakewood, Ohio, after a valiant battle of 26 days.
Born August 8, 1941 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Dominic and Katherine L.(DeMetro) Mollura.
He graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1959 and from Pennsylvania State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
He began his journalistic career at The Progress, Clearfield, in 1959, working part time as a news and sports reporter while attending Penn State. Following his graduation, he worked on The Progress news staff for a year as a general assignment reporter and photographer. He also served as news editor of the Centre Daily Times, State College, and telegraph news editor of the Patriot News, Harrisburg.
Mr. Mollura started at Bell Telephone Co. of Pennsylvania in 1966, and became news bureau supervisor in 1969. He then worked as a consultant for Penelec for a short period of time, and then for Northwest Airlines for three years. His last position was with Sealord Financial in Villanova.

He was a camera and computer buff, fly fisherman, a collector of cameras, clocks, watches and guns. He was a true "Renaissance Man".
One of the highlights of his life was his trip with his son, Drew, to France, Italy and Sicily in July, 2011.
He was very involved as a volunteer with Main Line Animal Rescue of Chester, from whom he adopted his beloved dog "Gobi". He created and produced a fundraising video for MLAR.
He was a member of Anderson Creek Rod and Gun Club.
Since 2007, he was an active member of the organizing committee of the Clearfield Area High School, Class of 1959, and the editor of their Web log: http://www.chsclassof59.blogspot.com.

Test post for CAHS Blog
Hi Folks - thanks to some good detective work by Denny's daughter, Tracy, and fellow class members, Judi White, Suzy Nagle and Joyce Moody Fletcher, if all goes right - when I hit the publish button in a moment - this should appear as a new post on our blog!
I contacted Judi (knowing that cousin Judi would know EXACTLY what to do!) to find out if we had any info on getting access to the site. I personally have enjoyed the posts made by Dennis and other classmates so much over the years, that I don't want to see it fade away. I have agreed to be "blogmeister" - knowing that I have HUGE shoes to try and fill and certainly don't have the skills with words that Denny did - but I'll try!
I have more I'd like to say - but I think it wise to see if this actually works before I go on. I would like to solicit comments, stories and especially any memories of our dear classmate, Dennis, so that I might compile a fitting memorial to the great man who started this blog and continued it in such a fine fashion for these past six and one half years!!
You may e-mail info to me at: orvis@bellatlantic.net
